There Goes the Sun
chili cook off. The all-to-short boating season came to an end with the
annual chili-potluck held on 11 October. Boating stories were swapped and the
people's choice was Deb Wyckoff's secret chili recipe. Don't forget to share your favorite galley and
potluck recipes. Click on the "Fun
Stuff" link
at the left for more on this subject.

Here Comes the Sun Potluck. A potluck was held on 7
Jun at the marina park. This was the kick-off of the 2008 season.

Blessing of the Fleet.
Saturday, May 31, the boating community of
Elmwood Township conducted the Annual blessing of the fleet ceremony. This
centuries-old tradition originated in southern European fishing communities. A
blessing from a local religious leader was meant to ensure a safe and bountiful
fishing season. Following the blessing, a Pot Luck brunch was held at the
Marina. For more pictures click on the picture at right.

Unity Builds Community.
One of the objectives of the United Boaters of
Elmwood Township is to improve our community. This spring, members of UBET
joined with other residents to participate in a clean-up of the Elmwood Marina
park. Preparing this popular green space for summer is just another way UBET
works to make Elmwood Township a better place to live and play.

Fourth of July Celebration:
On Wednesday, July 4, the UBET invited
friends and family to join them in celebrating the 231st birthday of our nation
with a breakfast pot luck. In addition to swapping boating stories, a favorite
topic of discussion was the final race of the America's Cup that occurred the
previous day in Valencia Spain. Some were disappointed that the US entry did not
qualify for the finals of the race, but all agreed that this was an exciting
event.

Beach Bums outing: An activity filled summer continues for UBET members.
On August 10, a large group of UBET'ers traveled to Wuerfel Park to see the
Traverse City Beach Bums play the Kalamazoo Kings. Wuerfel Park is a great
facility, the in-between inning entertainment was great, and the refreshments
were cold. O yes, the Bums got beat 5 to 2 but we still had a great time.

Ranch Rudolph Hayride:
What do horses and hay have to do with boating?
Well, not much except UBET boats had so much fun socializing during the summer
that they did not want it to end. Eighteen UBET members experienced a very
enjoyable hayride and dinner at Ranch Rudolf. Thanks to Kerry and Claire Foote
for organizing this event. The participants enjoyed this so much that they
agreed to try it again on New Years Eve.

weather were the highlight of the evening.
